What is KeyBro?

KeyBro is a voice-first AI keyboard for iPhone. Tap the mic, talk naturally, and KeyBro gives you clean text to preview, refine and insert:

  • •Dictate in any app where you can type, and get clean, punctuated text without filler words
  • •Preview the result, then refine it by speaking ("shorter", "friendlier", "in English") before inserting
  • •Run AI shortcuts such as Concise, Fix Grammar, Bullets and Translate, or ones you write yourself
  • •Insert text you type often, such as emails, addresses, replies and commands, in one tap

No KeyBro account and no KeyBro server: requests go straight from your iPhone to the AI provider you choose.

Getting Started

  1. 1Open Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › Add New Keyboard, and choose KeyBro.
  2. 2Tap KeyBro in the list and turn on Allow Full Access.
  3. 3In the KeyBro app, choose your AI provider and model and enter your API key, then tap Test Connection.
  4. 4In any app, switch to KeyBro with the globe key and tap the mic to start talking.

No API key or no connection? On supported devices, KeyBro can use Apple's on-device model instead.

Data & Privacy

KeyBro never keeps:

  • ×Your recordings
  • ×What you type on other keyboards or in other apps
  • ×Your API keys anywhere but the iOS Keychain

Kept only on your iPhone:

  • ✓History of inserted text, which you can turn off and clear
  • ✓Your shortcuts, dictionary and settings
  • ✓Usage stats, as counts only

KeyBro has no ads and no tracking, and we never sell your data.

Supported Features

KeyBro currently supports:

  • ✔Dictation in English, Traditional Chinese and other languages your speech engine supports
  • ✔OpenAI, OpenRouter, and any OpenAI-compatible service with your own API key
  • ✔Apple's on-device model on iOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence turned on

Limitations:

  • ✘Secure text fields, such as passwords, always use the system keyboard
  • ✘The keyboard cannot use the microphone itself; the KeyBro app records for it
  • ✘AI output can be wrong; always check the preview before inserting

Pricing & AI Costs

KeyBro is free to download from the App Store.

When you use your own API key, AI requests are billed by your provider to your own account, at their prices. KeyBro does not charge for, resell or mark up AI usage.

The KeyBro app shows your words, speech time, tokens and an estimated cost, so you always know what you spend.

Why the App Opens for the Microphone

iOS does not let any keyboard use the microphone, so the KeyBro app records for the keyboard:

  • •The first time you tap the mic, KeyBro opens its app to start listening. Swipe back to the app you were using and keep talking.
  • •After that, the same voice session keeps working from the keyboard without switching apps.
  • •While a session is active, iOS shows the microphone indicator and KeyBro shows its status in the Dynamic Island.
  • •The session ends after a period of inactivity you choose, or when you end it in the app.

Recordings are used only to turn your speech into text and are never stored.

Third-Party Services

Depending on your settings, KeyBro sends requests to:

  • The AI provider you configure (for example OpenAI or OpenRouter) – for transcription, clean-up and AI shortcuts
  • Apple – for Apple speech recognition and Apple Intelligence features
